Ol' Dirty Bastard Died Today (well Yesterday now) [Nov. 14th, 2004|12:30 am]
ODB, aka Ol' Dirty Bastard, created music that bobbed the heads of us or our friends. Maybe people disagree with his notes or even the sound of his music, but the energy spoke to the world. He died yesterday. His creative influence will live on.

Ol' Dirty Bastard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Ol' Dirty Bastard (or ODB) (November 15, 1968 - November 13, 2004) was a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, an American rapper whose distinctive style has proven one of the most influential of the 1990s. He was born in Brooklyn as Russell Jones, and soon founded the Wu-Tang Clan with his childhood friends, RZA and GZA. After Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Wu-Tang's massively popular and innovative debut album,"

Raping around the world [Sep. 29th, 2004|09:38 am]
AMERICAN RAPE STATISTICS - Somewhere in America, a woman is raped every 2 minutes, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. (More Stats)

From the NYTimes - Sentenced to Be Raped By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF

There's a good chance I'm taking this out of context, but he said in the article:

"I firmly believe that the central moral challenge of this century, equivalent to the struggles against slavery in the 19th century or against totalitarianism in the 20th, will be to address sex inequality in the third world - and it's the stories of women like Ms. Mukhtaran (who was raped) that convince me this is so"

Ms. Mukhtaran said, "education is the best way to achieve social change."

I believe Unbiased-Education is the ultimate tool for social change no matter where we live in the world.

Bush's Hometown Newspaper Endorses Kerry [Sep. 28th, 2004|10:29 am]
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - The newspaper in President Bush's adopted hometown of Crawford threw its support on Tuesday behind Bush's Democratic rival, Sen. John Kerry.

"The publishers of The LoneStar Iconoclast endorsed Bush four years ago, based on the things he promised, not on this smoke-screened agenda," the newspaper said in its editorial. "Today, we are endorsing his opponent, John Kerry."

From NYTimes - A Graphic Film of Protest, and Cries of Blasphemy By MARLISE SIMONS

As she begins to pray, the woman looks heavily veiled, showing her eyes only, but her long black chador turns out to be transparent. Beneath it, painted on her chest and stomach, are verses from the Koran.

More women appear. A bride is dressed in white lace, but her back is exposed. The Koranic verse that says a man may take his woman in any manner, time or place ordained by God is written on her skin.

The images roll on, now showing a woman lying on the ground, her back and legs marked by red traces of a whip. The Koranic verses on her wounded flesh say that those guilty of adultery or sex outside marriage shall be punished with 100 lashes. There are chilling sounds of a cracking whip; there is the haunting beauty of the Arabic calligraphy and soft music.

These are scenes from "Submission," a 10-minute film shown on Dutch prime time television, written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born refugee, now a member of the Dutch Parliament.

Taken from NYTimes - "U.S. Health Plans Include One With Catholic Tenets" By MILT FREUDENHEIM

The Bush administration has broken new ground in its "faith-based" initiative, this time by offering federal employees a Catholic health plan that specifically excludes payment for contraceptives, abortion, sterilization and artificial insemination.

The new plan, announced last week, combines two White House priorities. It is part of a $1 billion project seeking to involve religious organizations in all types of federal social programs. At the same time, the plan is a new form of coverage - a health savings account combined with high-deductible coverage - that is being promoted as a centerpiece of President Bush's health care policy.

Representative Pete Stark of California, the senior Democrat on the health subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a telephone interview: "Medical care is a science. Getting medical care and religion mixed together is just as bad as getting church and state mixed together."

Another Beheading [Sep. 20th, 2004|02:58 pm]
A video posted Monday on a Web site showed the beheading of a man identified as American civil engineer Eugene Armstrong. The militant group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the slaying and said another hostage — either an American or a Briton — would be killed in 24 hours.

I'd like to ponder this statement below:

The militant on the video called President Bush (news - web sites) "a dog" and addressed him, saying, "Now, you have people who love death just like you love life. Killing for the sake of God is their best wish, getting to your soldiers and allies are their happiest moments, and cutting the heads of the criminal infidels is implementing the orders of our lord."

This statement particularly: "you have people who love death just like you love life. Killing for the sake of God"

Loving death VS. Loving Life.. Both positions are tied strongly to the word love.

I feel like we're experiencing an issue of balance here. Another occurance of Yin and Yang. Why can differences not live harmoniously together.

I'm going to start with a simple issue.. Why not Pro-Choice???

No Stars, Just Cuffs [Sep. 20th, 2004|02:23 pm]
a mother who went to a Laura Bush rally last week at a firehouse in Hamilton, N.J.,
wearing a T-shirt that blazed with her agony and anger: "President Bush You Killed My Son."

She got handcuffed, arrested and charged with a crime for daring to
challenge the Bush policy in Iraq, where her son, Army First Lt. Seth
Dvorin, 24, died in February while attempting to disarm a bomb.

My birthday on livejournal !!! [Sep. 7th, 2004|12:17 am]
[mood | happy]
[music |U2 - One]

23 years and 9 months ago today, one act of intense passion began my pulsating existence within a supportive womb. Since journeying outside 23 years ago, I’ve begun to realize more and more each passing year that I’ve never felt more supported or more connected to life than I do now. I’m hoping this birthday that this trend will continue. I can not imagine a year as grand as last year. – Go Virgos!!

Some Quotes for my B-Day:

FOR MY INNOCENCE:
Albert Einstein:
People like you and I, though mortal of course like everyone else, do not grow old no matter how long we live...[We] never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born.

FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Jean-Paul Sartre:
Everything has been figured out, except how to live.

FOR MY ACTIONS
Ralph Waldo Emerson:
Life is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood.

FOR MY SOUL:
Thomas Jefferson:
It is in our lives and not our words that our religion must be read.

FOR MY EVOLUTION:
John F. Kennedy:
Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.

Thanks for sharing my b-day with me on LiveJournal! Have an awesome day!

I found something in the Da Vinci Code that was most beautiful to me. It was the fact that our society has been comunicating with itself through the use of the most basic symbols. Dan Brown mentioned this mountain like shape and this open upside down triangle like shape. One Masculine, the other femanine..

Not till the very last pages of this 400+ page book did it conclude with this awesome sybolic connection. I loved this book!!!

Male and female each have their own symbol.  The blade ^ is the symbol for male.  The blade resembles a phallus.  Today it is used as a form to show rank in the military.    The chalice v is the female symbol.  It resembles a cup, a vessel, and the shape of a woman’s womb. Interestingly, the enclosed female  and male  symbols when placed on top of each other make the Star of David  expressing a balance of man and woman.

LiveJournal / Slashdot [Sep. 4th, 2004|10:11 am]
Does LiveJournal have any Slashdot-simular rating technology? It would be interesting if we could be randomly selected, like in Slashdot, to submit our friends entries into the "Pool of COOL"

It would be for the very best LiveJournal-Entriers. Reading the "Daily Cool" would be really cool.

(Why can't i select my mood or song?: Do i need the client?)
Mood: happy
Song: Cursive Music which contains lots of Cello!

Ecommerce is harder than i thought. [Aug. 27th, 2004|09:11 am]
Ecommerce is much harder than I ever thought.. i've started 2 ecommerce sites in the past month. Varsity Depot, LLC (http://www.varsitydepot.com) and JohnLegend.com (I only built the ecommerce stuff for it which is at http://www.johnlegend.net and will be linked to johnlegend.com today)

For VarsityDepot
i found good deals from a local supplier/manufactuer.. So good that I could undercut all the major sports equipment sites and still make 20-30% margin.. I've linked up to Shopping.Yahoo and Froogle.. But still no business. Damm it.. i need insurance.. i need cash.. i need to move out of my house.. BUT now that this site is fully automated with Credit card companies and UPS tracking and packing, I got a plan!! Since i don't want to jinx it, Give me a few weeks and I'll let you know if it's a success.

Johnlegend.net is cool though.
The site previously used paypal and the guy John Legend is getting pretty big. His site already get a good amount of sales each day. So when my ecommerce setup is linked to his, it will be recieving sales right away... Yeah.. To bad i don't get any of that profit.

Hey.. This is one AWESOME site. Its developed an evolving system, using ratings from users.. But what makes it so cool.. is that users rate other users.. so the worth of your rating advice declines or advances over time.
